A surprise occurred ahead of the quarterfinals of Toyota Gazoo Racing Badminton Asia U17 & U15 Championships 2022. The second seed in the U17 men's singles Lok Hong Quan from Malaysia surprisingly lost to Taiwan's unseeded representative Wei Cheng Su in a tight rubber game 18-21, 21-14, 21-19 in a match held in Nonthaburi, Thailand, Thursday (1/12/2022) local time.

However, the first seed in this group, also from Malaysia, Muhammad Faiq, has not encountered significant obstacles. Faiq only needed two games 21-13, 21-16 to defeat Japanese representative Shuji Sawada.

Interestingly, Faiq was also the first seed in men's doubles. Partnered with Lok Hok Quan, the two entered the quarterfinals thanks to a 21-16, 21-17 win over Pannawat Jumtubtim/Attawut Sreepeaw. The second seed, like in the men's singles, is also occupied by Malaysian representatives, namely Kang Khai Xing/Aaron Tai. They also entered the quarterfinals after beating Nge Joo Jin/Kai Ji Mark Wong from Singapore 21-10, 22-24, 21-11.

It's no different from the other two events, in the women's singles, the two finalist candidates, Unnati Hooda from India as the top seed and Sarunrak Vitidsarn from Thailand who is seeded in second place, also made it through to the quarterfinals. This was after Hooda won 21-11, 21-19 over Nutchavee Sittiteeranan, who is also seeded 14th. Meanwhile, Sarunrak Vitidsarn easily defeated his compatriot Peeraya Wechawong 21-9, 21-11.

In the women's doubles, the same as the men's singles, the second seed, Vennala Kalagotla/Shriyanshi Valishetty, did not make it to the quarterfinals as their progress was halted in the second round by the Thai pair Hathaithip Mijad/Huzwaney Momin 15-21, 16-21. Hathaithip Mijad/Huzwaney Momin also ended up unable to make it to the quarter-finals due to a double defeat by Kim Min Ji/Kim Min Sun from South Korea with 21-6, 21-18. The top seeds in this group, Titis Maulida Rahma/Bernadine Anindiya Wardana won 21-17, 21-19 from the Chinese Taipei doubles Shin-Yu Chang/Ssu-Ying Lu while securing a ticket to the quarter-finals.

Meanwhile, in the U15 group, the scenario of bringing together the final between the top seeds is almost certain not to happen in all numbers. One of the first or second seeds had been eliminated before reaching the quarterfinals. Starting from the men's singles, Muhammad Aqeef Razin from Malaysia was eliminated in the second round by Chung-Hsiang Yih from Chinese Taipei 9-21, 21-23. Second seed Lee Yu-jui of Chinese Taipei is still holding out, thanks to a 21-15, 21-19 win over Teekanetr Kiatsupibul from Thailand.

Likewise in women's singles. Tanvi Sharma from India, who was placed as the second seed, lost in the second round after losing to Passa-Orn Phannachet from Thailand 18-21, 21-14, 15-21. Passa-Orn Phannachet has reached the quarterfinals. The first seed of U15 women's singles, Anyapat Phichitpreechasak from Thailand also progressed to the quarter-finals after winning 21-17, 21-9 over Himeka Hashimura from Japan.
